How did AID Start?
AID started when a group of students in the University of Maryland decided to come together and work for India's Development. They felt that just by themselves, their efforts might not have mount to much, but by contributing whatever they could together for a common cause, they could indeed make a difference.

What are the salient features about AID?
1. All of AID's work in the U.S. is done by unpaid volunteers.
2. 95% of our donations come from individual donors. All the donations are 100% tax free.
3. AID has ultra-low overheads of just 4 %!
4. We monitor our projects regularly through volunteer visits to India and through AID full-timers in India. We also insist on regular feedback to ensure that we know of the progress of the project.
5. AID is developing a strong volunteer base in India. Three of our dedicated volunteers have returned to India to work fulltime for AID and many more are following suite.
What do we do as AID volunteers?
1. Review and Support Projects in integrated spheres of rural development.
2. Build awareness and support campaigns on issues of concern in India.
3. Support full-time social workers who have gone back from US to work full-time in villages through our Jeevan Saathi Program.
4. Support individuals working on different issues in India through our Saathi Program.
5. Build awareness amongst ourselves and in the community on issues concerning the environment and social justice.
6. Build the spirit of volunteerism and connectivity amongst NRIs to reach out to the ‘Real India'.

- Join the group! AID has about 4000 members from all walks of life. Become a part by talking to an AID volunteer or Call 1-888-TALK TO AID
- Attend our Community Service Hours (CSH) meetings, every Saturday from 11.30 a.m to 1.30p.m. Write to info@aidindia.org for agenda and venue.
- Your money does make a difference. AID raises most of its money from individual contributions like yours. You can sign up for periodic donations through www.aidindia.org/donate
- Your time is valuable for AID... Volunteer! All of AID's work is done in the US by dedicated, unpaid volunteers. Don't worry about qualifications. Pick a job you like!
- Spread the word! Encourage your friends and family to support and take part in AID and other such efforts.
- Promote awareness within yourself and others about the root causes of poverty and injustice, and how we can address them through our lifestyle choices and through participation in groups like AID.
- Visit AID projects and villages. Make your India trips more valuable by volunteering to visit projects and sharing your experiences and feedback with us.
